WHAT WE DO

Freeing the Innocent

The Kentucky Innocence Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to freeing innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted in the state of Kentucky. Here's what we do:

  • Screen and Investigate Claims: We review hundreds of requests for assistance each year and carefully investigate those that have a credible claim of innocence.
  • Use DNA Testing: When appropriate, we use DNA testing to help prove innocence and secure the release of those who have been wrongly convicted.
  • Provide Legal Representation: We provide pro bono legal representation to individuals seeking to clear their names and gain their freedom.
  • Advocate for Reform: We advocate for reforms to the criminal justice system to prevent future wrongful convictions, such as improving eyewitness identification procedures and reducing the use of junk science.
  • Educate the Public: We educate the public about the causes of wrongful convictions and the need for criminal justice reform.

Our goal is to bring justice to individuals who have been wrongfully convicted and to prevent wrongful convictions from happening in the future.
